My dear friend Dena D. came to visit me in Chicago this weekend and I can't even begin with how much fun we have. Dena is just one of those special people that everyone should have the opportunity to meet or spend time with in life. She's filled with energy (I'm pretty energetic and she SO outdoes my level) and positivity, and humor, and laughs and smiles and inspiration ... and I could go on.
While not her first visit to the Windy City (also known as the most amazing city in the world as far as I'm concerned) there were a few destinations she hasn't checked off her list so we did just that — the Publican, Wrigley Field, the Willis Tower, Grant Park, Millenium Park and Michigan Ave. I also added a Chicago summer street festival, Taste of Lincoln Avenue, and a few of my favorite haunts.
I hadn't seen Dena in at least 6 years since my last trip to Orlando, and it turns out our other friend Reagan was in town this weekend as well (she's since moved to D.C.) so it was a mini-reunion of sorts at the Publican on Saturday night. The excitement of seeing these two and catching up in person paired with the amazing meal we had really started the weekend off perfectly.
Sunday morning she drug me out of bed for a four miler on the Lakefront (at a 9 minute mile pace, phew!) and then we were off to Wrigley Field so she could cheer on her beloved St. Louis Cardinals.
Monday included brunch at Toast in Lincoln Park, and an attempt to visit the Sky Deck at Willis Tower ... until we were told it was a two hour wait. Nope. So we wandered over to Grant Park where they were setting up for Lollapalooza this weekend (I'm still hunting a three day pass, y'all!) and some photos with her GoPro at Buckingham Fountain.
After seeing all of the photos Dena snapped of me this weekend (some I knew about, some I did not) I wish I had her around more often! How cool are these shots?
Miss you Dena D — thanks for being a beautiful friend and bright shining light in my world. Come back soon!
